Drupal 8 Accelerate fund
Since it seems like a good idea to apply for the new Drupal 8 Accelerate fund in addition to the old standby Community Cultivation grant, I thought I'd voice a concern.
TL;DR: the new fund probably would not fund a sprint on the Media module since it's not a D8 release blocker.
Here is the list of critical issues: https://www.drupal.org/project/issues/search/drupal? status[0]=1&status[1]=13&status[2]=8&status[3]=14&status[4]=4&priorities[0]= 400&c ategories[0]=1&categories[1]=2&version[0]=8.x&issue_tags_op=%3D&text=&assign ed=&s ubmitted=&project_issue_followers=&&issue_tags=&order=field_issue_component& sort= asc
And here are the notes I took on DrupalizeMe podcast #054, covering the fund: http://goo.gl/YfzXG8
We will probably shoot for the "bottom up," community-based focus of the fund, since we're a user group and not an individual or small team of dedicated core developers.
My hunch is that we just need to think up a novel idea involving the people at April event. Then make sure it homes in on the fund's purpose, and word the application in "their language."
The missing link is how to tie in Kevin's media module sprint with D8 critical release blockers--that's something I need help imagining.
Some sample "novel" ideas, though:
- Hire a comic book author to portray us tackling the contrib process, and then publish the comic book
- Sponsor a documentation guru to oversee a doc sprint for one of the blockers, either remote or in the flesh
- Gamify the contrib process with prizes going to the winners of a competition that starts at the April event
- Bring in a film crew to document the contrib effort at the camp, and turn it into a YouTube production
Let me know what you think. Add ideas and let's get this moving.
